Summary of this Book...
This is the history of the great Depression and why it lasted more than ten years. It is a history book written from a perspective of someone who studied the personalities and motives of the people involved with trying to fix things and how they stumbled along.
This type of Book is good for...
anyone who is interested in what is happening now. There is class warfare throughout and demonstrations larger than the occupy stuff.
I especially liked...
the chapter about Andrew Mellon and his generosity. Even though the government was going after him over political junk he still donated the National Gallery of Art to the people of the US and didn't even ask that his name go on the building. He paid for it, but it was a generous gift and he wanted nothing in return.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
learn more about the 1930's.
This Book made me feel...
like saying a big thank you to Andrew Mellon and his family for one of my favorite places of all time.
The author of this Book...
doesn't sugar coat all that FDR tried to do like a lot of historians have. He was a power grabber and master politician.
I recommend this Book because...
anyone interested in the 1930's will find it very interesting and there is so much similarity to what is going on. The book was written before the current great debacle.
