The world is ending. The Taking follows Molly and Neil Sloan as they deal with what seems like an alien-takeover. They soon assign the role of savior, and along with a few dogs which seem like more-than-dogs, they gather defenseless children in their town and fight off the growing dangers.

Fans of horror and sci-fi, especially aliens and terra-forming might enjoy this book.

It was pretty scary, especially at the beginning when I didn't know what was going on. And it just got creepier and stranger.

The end. A lot of readers, it seems, were a little disappointed by the ending and what the hostile force turned out to be. It was a little out of nowhere and I couldn't help feeling a bit cheated.

Dean Koontz is a prolific writer known for his horror and other-worldliness of writing. He likes to create meaning behind things, not just random violence and terror. Many readers didn't like the "meaning" behind this book, though.

If you're a fan of Koontz, you'll probably want to read all his work, and this one, in my opinion, is pretty frightening.

Although the book is over 400 pages, I read it in three sittings. It doesn't quite have the quality of writing I've come to expect from Koontz, but it's a thrilling read.
