Summary of this Book...
In this mystery, Mario Conde, the protagonist ex-cop turned writer, investigates the mystery of a corpse, belonging to an FBI agent shot in Finca Vigia belonging to Ernest Hemingway in Cuba after forty years of the incident.
His aim is to find who shot the man. Was it Hemingway himself or someone else?
To do this, he interviews people who had worked for Hemingway and are still alive.
The suspense throughout the story is a slow though well-paced one. The estate of Hemingway and the mention of other writers who were his contemporaries are non-fiction compared to the detective Fuentes's fictional character.
I especially liked...
The detailed portrayal of Hemingway.
The author of this Book...
Leonardo Padura Fuentes (born 1955) is an internationally known Cuban novelist and journalist. His other works, according to Wikipedia, are:
Fiebre de caballos
Pasado perfecto ("Havana Blue", 2007), 1991
Vientos de cuaresma ("Havana Gold", 2008)), 1994
Máscaras ("Havana Red", 2005), 1997
Paisaje de otoño ("Havana Black", 2006), 1998.
La novela de mi vida, 2002
Adiós Hemingway, 2005
La neblina del ayer, 2005
El hombre que amaba a los perros, 2009
I recommend this Book because...
It is a good mystery, well-written, and it exhibits the Cuban perspective on Hemingway.
