Summary of this DVD... | ||
This is the story of an EOD team in Iraq. SFC William James, played by Jeremy Renner, is a bomb technician with psychological problems and a craving for the violence of war. The movie takes you on explosive ordinance disposal team missions in the cities of Iraq.
This type of DVD is good for...
Anyone who enjoys war movies with explosions, shocking violence and intermittent tension. The movie does not adhere to the detail of reality. No infantry security for a bomb squad in a hostile city is hard to believe.
I especially liked... | ||
The movie was filmed in Jordan. The cameras caught the beauty of the scenery, even the stark desert was filmed well.
I didn't like... | ||
The story was weak and uninteresting. There is little attention to military detail. The movie is little more than a series of vignettes with little action.
When I finished viewing this DVD I wanted to...
Call my friends and tell them not to spend their money on this DVD.
This DVD made me feel...
I don't understand the critical acclaim this film received. The movie reminded me of a documentary, right down to the moving shaking camera. I felt like it was a failed movie that was made to look like a documentary.
The cast of this DVD... | ||
The cast, Renner, Anthonie Mackie, Brian Geraghty, did a good job, but the script was weak. Ralph Fiennes had what could be called a “cameo” role, at best. The Director, Kathryn Bigelow, Point Blank, K-9, worked hard to make this movie work, but failed in my opinion.
I don't recommend this DVD because...
With a title like this movie has, and the critical acclaim it has received, most people are expecting a war movie full of action and tension. This movie will fail them in all respects.
Further Comments... | ||
This film is not a realistic depiction of any action in Iraq. While it was apolitical, it was also too stylized for my taste. There was a sniper sequence about midway through that brought some substance to the film, but that quickly faded, the remainder of the film was weak and boring, and it lacked a real story. I don’t recommend this film to anyone who thinks a movie should contain some realism, this one does not.
