Summary of this Book...
The Book of Ordinary Oracles Lon Milo DuQuette. Weiser Books. 2005. By Morgaine Actually this is quite the cute little book. The book itself doubles as an oracle as each page contains a message that just might answer your questions. The author suggests flipping the book around several times and then opening it to the page that “feels” right. Your answer till be found there in a gray half circle on the side of the page. DuQuette also talks about how and why to use several different types of oracles – some conventional and some others that are anything but. The chapters in this book include (and the titles of some of them alone will key you in on the extent of the author’s imagination): No sense of humor? Leave my tent! Why oracles work – seven secrets of furtune telling The Couch –Potato Oracle The Oracle of Ko-ween Dice Dominoes Playing-card tarot and the the solitaire oracle How to be truthful to yourself when reading your own cards New Year’s Eve Tarot The Mark Twain Oracle Ask Shakespeare The Pendulum The I Ching So many oracles, so little time The author includes his own “I Ching of Mi-Lo” at the end of the book. DuQuette writes in a conversational manner and fills the pages with stories and humor related to his use and study of oracles. Although some of the oracles are just down right corny and seem to be almost making fun of the whole concept of oracles in the first place, I don’t think that was the author’s intention. He obviosuly knows his stuff quite well, but can also show a lighter side by poking gentle fun at his own interests.
