Summary of this Book...
"Have Jack the Ripper, Montezuma, and other famous villains come alive to commit grisly murders? That's the question that Roberta, a sorceress in her 40s, and her 20-something assistant must determine in this futuristic fantasy/mystery novel."
This type of Book is good for...
I would suggest this for High school students and older. The author does a great job of making the book excitign and mature without anything that would be too graphic for high school kids, and even junior high kids, though I think the reading level and concepts might be a little confusign for junior high students.
I especially liked... | ||
I can't believe a book had me chearing for Satan, and is sounds horrible but- oh, you just need to read the book! The action is extremely well done, the characters are very believable and relatable, the plot moves along at a good pace after the initial slow start, and the author has done a good job of filling in plot holes, even if it is sometimes "they are drawn by luck."
I didn't like... | ||
The slow bits were a little hard, slow beginings that last a few pages are a pet peeve of mine since the first chapter's page should grab your attention- still, the author has her own style and moderates between action and rest so the book never realls slows to a draggign pace.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
I wanted to share this book with everyone when I finished reading it!
This Book made me feel...
It's amazing. You can really connect with the characters and see their conflict and you want them to succeed. You find yourself cheering for them and wonderign what will happen next. I love books whre it's a team spirit and the reader feels involved.
The author of this Book...
Did a fantastic job. Really. I strive to be a better writer after reading this. Herve Jubert has great voice through the story, likable characters, evil villains, action, reaction, depth, conflict, and a strong plot.
I recommend this Book because...
It was a fun read. I kept trying to sleep, telling myself "just one more chapter... one more... one more." I couldn't put it down sometimes. Also, you will get strange looks if you read this on an airplane, so be warned.
I don't recommend this Book because...
If you are extremely religios, I do warn you that the witches in Herve Jubert's series have alignments with the devil. Satan is their lord, they believe God is dead. Reading the book, you'll realize they are not 'satanists,' they do not sacrifice people or animals or try to hurt people at all.
Further Comments... | ||
Besides the religious aspects, this really is a great book. And really, if you're strong in your religion then this will not shake you, so don't avoid it because of the fact that the witches align themselves with the devil. It's just an interesting take that had been done many times before, and that works best with this book. I gave this book a 4 in overall quality because of the snail-start and the stressed 'God is dead' part that did not seem quite necessary and is becoming a cliche.
