Donald Thomas provides "further adventures" of the famous detective and his companion, Dr. John Watson, in this collection of short stories. Written in the same style as the originals (from Watson's point of view), these tales are presented as stories that somehow never made it into the original series. In some of the tales, Thomas deftly places Holmes and Watson into historical events, placing them alongside Winston Churchill taking on anarchists in 1911 and assisting British Intelligence during the Great War. Mostly, however, Thomas delivers delightfully authentic-feeling Sherlock Holmes adventures.

Lovers of Sherlock Holmes and other great mystery/detective stories.

Thomas' ability to use Watson's voice in a very authentic manner, as well as the fun of seeing Holmes at the turning points of several historical events.

The fact that I have a difficult time remembering if some of these stories were written by Donald Thomas or A. Conan Doyle!

Knows his material well and did a fantastic job of creating the correct voice and tone in the stories.

It is a very satisfying continuation of the Sherlock Holmes catalog. Most Holmes fans will appreciate these additional offerings.

If you are not familiar with the Sherlock Holmes originals, definately read A. Conan Doyle's works first.
