Set in pre-world war II (and post world war II) Japan, Memoirs of a Geisha tells an enchanting and heart wrenching tale of a young, Japanese girl named Chiyo (later renamed Sayuri). Chiyo is sold into a geisha house by her family, and made to work there in order to pay off her family's debts. Join her on her journey to survive this new way of life and on her search for love.

This DVD is great for those with an eye for the artistic and for those who love a good romance.

I especially liked the imagery and story line. It's believable and extremely well done. The life of a geisha fascinated me, and I'm sure it will fascinate others as well.

I wanted to know what happened to Sayuri later in life, when she'd grown old. However, the movie does not extend that far.

Happy and sad. This is a moving story which holds both sad moments and moments of joy.

The cast, though Chinese, did a wonderful job at their roles. Some people complain that Japanese should have played the main roles at least, but I think that no matter the race, as long as they played the role in a believable manner, it should be fine.

I recommend this DVD because it is beautiful. It's heart breaking, moving, and probably one of the most intriguing films I've ever seen.
