Summary of this Book...
An incredible journey through the history of Auschwitz based on inside accounts. The author leads the reader through every aspect of life in the camp, leaving no corner unexplored. While harrowing, it gives a clear picture of these times and also inspires the reader as they read true accounts of strength and fortitude most of us could never imagine. Written so many years after the fact, this book also covers lesser known areas of life within the camp. We learn of the brothels, or "houses of pleasure" instituted to promote harder work ethic among select prisoners. There are also unbelieveable accounts of where the line between guard and prisoner become blurred, including an astounding relationship between one inmate and the SS guard that saved her life. Not for the faint of heart, this book covers every aspect of life in Auschwitz. It's honest and poignant, sure to hit any reader with a lasting impression.
