Summary of this DVD... | ||
Queen Elizabeth I roughly in the middle of her regency. She has come into her own as a woman but this story is about Elizabeth coming into her own as regent. She is betrayed as a matter of course, but this time, the spy world used her own needs for security against her...for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. She has to "Cowgirl up" and lead her people to war, humble herself when she makes her mistakes and still stay the royal Plantagenet Queen that she is. The story starts with her one-time brother in law planning her doom because she will not marry him herself. There is the Catholic Church aspect, still having a really tough time with a woman, the daughter of a man who broke from the Church in the first place, and puts its whole power behind Phillip as he tries to break Elizabeth and England with her. This is the story that leads up to the infamous Spanish Armada. This is not only the story of the Regent Elizabeth, but also the human being, the woman who has to forsake any real attachment and love interest for the sake of her country...who has the paparazzi of her time making fun of her and ridiculing her for not having a husband and babies...and has the fears and dreams of any other normal woman, just in the middle of a microscope.
This type of DVD is good for...
History buffs, independent-woman flick fans and anyone who likes a good action movie/strong girl flick.
I especially liked... | ||
That Elizabeth was portrayed as the humorous, smart, temperamental regent she was in real life. The character development in the movies was great as well.
I didn't like... | ||
That they didn't point out that when the Spanish Armada broke, it broke all over the coasts of Ireland and Scotland, introducing black haired babies when the Spanish began to rape and pillage the locals.
This DVD made me feel...
My head was up high and I felt like a queen myself. I haven't felt so strong and female since the first Tomb Raider came out.
The cast of this DVD... | ||
Cate Blanchette, Geoffry Rush, Clive Owen....and they did so great! PS. How does Mr. Rush do so well in so many films...spy master here, Pirate Captain in the Caribbean and writer-phobia nerd in The Banger Sisters! What a guy....
