Summary of this Book...
A phenomenal book about one year in the life of rock star Nikki Sixx. From the title, you already know this book is going to deal with drug abuse and it certainly does! But it also deals with depression, phycosis, anti-social disorders, freindships, broken relationships, and the price of fame.

With comments from those who were closest to Nikki, this book really puts this lifestyle into perspective from all angles - the good and bad. With the added lyrics that read like poetry throughout these diary entries, this book really lets you dwell for a while inside of the darkest corners in a tattered rockstar's mind.
This type of Book is good for...
not only Motley Crue fans but anyone who finds joy in music. Anyone who had battled with addictions and depression. I read at least one chapter a night before bed and I think it is a great adult bedtime story. It makes you fall asleep with your mind working.
I especially liked...
There's so much about this book that I can put here but I think the one main thing I enjoyed most about this book were the illustrations. The drawings were absolutley amazingly shocking and vulgar but so well placed to show you how Sixx must have felt at the time. Between the actual photos and the drawings, the reader really feels like all of it could have happened in their own life and really sees the depth of pain Sixx must have been in.
I didn't like...
how overrated the book is. For almost 2 years now I have heard from everyone how life-changing this book is and I was determined to read it. The build up to it didn't match the end feeling I had after finishing the book at all. It wasn't nessicarily life changing for me, and it felt more like pulling out the chest of my own diaries from when I was a teenager and reading those entries. The trick to really enjoying this book is being able to read between the lines. It's the things that Sixx leaves unsaid that shake you the worst.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Call everyone I know and tell them about it and read them my favorite excerts. And tell them how proud of myself I was for finishing the whole book in 3 days simply because of how hard it was for me to put down.
This Book made me feel...
like I wanted to find Nikki Sixx just to give him a hug... but then again that would be weird.
The author of this Book...
Nikki Sixx is one of the greatest muscians of our time and greatly under-appreciated. I didn't even realize how talented he is until I read this book. Putting all the pictures and diary entries aside and simply focusing on the lyrics and thoughts he placed throughout the book I have realized what an amazing lyracist he is, and how poetic he is behidn the dark eye makeup and tight leather pants.
I recommend this Book because...
It's one of those books that one second you'll be cracking up laughing, then suddenly tears will be falling over your cheeks. It definatly stirs your emotions and has alot of shock value to it.
Further Comments...
"The whiskey river has a long way to flow"
-Nikki Sixx
