Summary of this DVD... | ||
In 1959, a beloved TV and movie star, George Reeves (who was more known for his role as Superman on TV) was found shot to death in his home. The police ruled it as a suicide, but over the years, many have wondered if there's more to it than that. In Hollywoodland, director Allen Coulter, attempts to show us the life and times of George Reeves as seen through those he surrounded himself with. The movie is not so much a 'documentary' about Reeves, but about the situations that might have caused his death. Cue in dectective, Louis Simo, a private dectective (with his own personal demons), who sets about trying to debunk the myth that Reeves committed suicide. Through Simo, we come in contact with other characters like the Mannixs' - head of MGM and his wife Toni, who was having an affair with George, Lenore - George's girlfriend at the time of his death - and so many others who all become prime suspects in Simo's quest for the truth. However, at the end of the movie, Simo, through various events that happen during the course of this investigation, comes to realize what is most important to him.
This type of DVD is good for...
Those who love movies that deal with old-style Hollywood, fans of gangsta-mob like movies, dectective stories, drama and action.
I especially liked... | ||
The way the movie was shot, made all the more clear in the extra features (which was a treat). The actors were magnificent in their roles, which special props and kudos to Bob Hoskins (who plays Eddie Mannix), Diane Lane (who plays Toni Mannix) and Adrien Brody (who plays Louis Simo)
I didn't like... | ||
Ben Affleck...seriously couldn't they find someone else to play George Reeves???
When I finished viewing this DVD I wanted to...
Know more about Reeves and his history.
The cast of this DVD... | ||
Ben Affleck, Diane Lane, Adrien Brody, Bob Hoskins and so much more.
Further Comments... | ||
What's so great about the movie is not just about George Reeves, but it's about a man (Simo) whose life is a sham. He's a divorcee, former LAPD that was disgraced from his job (for reasons that you'll have to watch to understand), a man hungry for attention and who neglects a son who needs him to be a father. THAT is the real story behind this movie. That Simo eventually finds redemption from Reeves in a strange and indirect way.
