Summary of this Book...
Sometimes the best advice is the one we have always known, the one that has always been there in front of our faces. The Power of Nice: How to Conquer the Business World With Kindness puts that common sense advice in effective words and offers it to the readers in an easy-to-swallow pill form.

With acclamations from celebrities and those who have made it big in business, the book tells the owners, managers, and workers of the companies to be nice and to treat everyone with kindness. Although the overall advice may sound like cliché, it highlights a most successful business skill, politeness.

Following the foreword by Jay Leno, chapter one introduces how to be nice, as chapter two continues in detail about the six principles of being nice. The rest of the book elaborates on the simple methods of being nice, such as: tell the truth; be genuine; listen well; compliment the competition; make friends before they become enemies; give everyone the credit they deserve; keep it simple; use empathy; cultivate friendships, etc.

The most important message a reader gets from the book is to treat everyone with respect, no matter what their job or rank in the company may be, which certainly is a much better and more powerful strategy than intimidation, because making people feel they matter is the most powerful incentive. Courtesy, good manners, sincere compliments, and a smile here and there can go a long way.
This type of Book is good for...
learning to get along with people and making them feel they matter.
I especially liked...
The down-to-earth facts and direct approach of the writers. Also, several entertaining anecdotes help explain the points of the writers well, and the language of the book is direct and easily understandable.
This Book made me feel...
that maybe there is some hope for the business world to act with some decency.
The author of this Book...
Linda Kaplan Thaler and her partner Robin Koval are in advertising business. Robin Koval is the president of The Kaplan-Thaler Group. Their website thepowerofnice.com is a special network for anyone to enjoy and test his or her niceness.

Linda Thaler is a Phi Beta Kappa and Magna cum Laude graduate of CCNY, with a BA in Psychology and a Master's Degree in Music. Thaler's advertising brilliance has won her many awards. Her campaign jingles and catch phrases like the "Kodak Moment" and the Aflac Duck campaign have made big waves in the advertising business. Thaler also has been part of several television and theater projects.

The other book by Linda Kaplan Thaler and Robin Koval is Bang! Getting Your Message Heard in a Noisy World.
I recommend this Book because...
it can surely make the workplace a pleasant place to be, but more importantly, it can make owners, managers, and workers to become more delightful people to work with.
Further Comments...
Readers can read this book in one sitting because it is short and to the point. In a business environment or not, for all people, this book shows the road to success.
