Summary of this Book...
FBI agent Kelly Fienman has a personal vendetta against a serial killer known as the Acid Man. After being nearly killed by him, she recovers enough to become involved in a kidnapping investigation. Little does she know that the child who was kidnapped is the focal point of Matt Connor, who faked his own death after the woman he loved rejected him and kept his own son from him. Kelly is soon hot on his trail while keeping her investigation a secret. She confides her information to the Acid Man, whom she had shot and paralyzed. In this intense novel of cat and mouse, who is lying to who, who is trying to outwit who, and the fact that sometimes it is hard to determine the bad guy from the good guy makes this an addictive read. Christopher Pike hasn't lost his touch.
This type of Book is good for...
People who like thrillers in the Hannibal Lector style.
I especially liked...
The character of Kelly Fienman. She is tough and believable.
I didn't like...
Amy, the evil woman Matt Connor obsessed and almost died for. You just want to reach out and throttle her because you know she lies and gets away with it through most of the novel.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Read more. I hope the character of Kelly is brought back in a sequel.
This Book made me feel...
Confused. The actions of Kelly, for instance. She basically goes rogue on the Acid Man investigation and it almost killed her. On her next investigation she takes a leave of absence and NO ONE THOOUGHT TO KEEP AN EYE ON HER. Didn't they learn anything from her previous encounter? It kind of stretches the believability factor.
The author of this Book...
Christopher Pike has written dozens of books for young adults. He had also written many fine novels for adults, too. He lives in Santa Barbara, California.
I recommend this Book because...
It really is a good read. Its language is rather crude in places, but is understandable due to the genre. I only have one little thing to nitpick about, and that is there is no River Styx in the Egyptian mytholgical tradition. An expert like Kelly should have known that.
