Summary of this Book...
This book is about Robert Neville. He believes he is the last human on Earth, against the infected vampires infesting Earth. During daylight he tries to kill as many as possible and scavenge for food and other supplies. At night though, he is trapped in his only stronghold, his house, while the vampires wait outside of his house, just waiting for him to make a mistake...
This type of Book is good for...
Fans of the Sci-Fi and classic horror genres. The book will give you cold chills up your spines at some parts, and strong and emotional pity for Neville.
I especially liked... | ||
How the author captured the feeling of isolation and depression more than the author focussed on Neville's in-human foes.
I didn't like... | ||
The Length of the book. While other great Sci-Fi Novels and Graphic novels like "A Brave New World" and "1984" are very long, this book is only about 150 pages in length.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
See all three of the film adaptions. There have been three films based upon this book. In 1964, The one that followed the book the most "The Last Man On Earth" starred Vincent Price, In 1971, starring Charlton Heston "The Omega Man" was released, and then, the farthest away from the book was released in 2007 named, "I Am Legend".
This Book made me feel...
Signifigance for the vampire genre. It completely overthrew other vampire novels in it's own horrific way.
The author of this Book...
Richard Matheson, wrote many famous short stories including the Twilight Zone's classic episode "Terror at 20,000 feet" about a traveling man seeing a mysterious creature on the wing of the plane he's aboard. To get some of his short stories, you can pick up the new special addition, which has some in the back of it.
I recommend this Book because...
To the people who did not like the new movie, this book would make you appreciate it a bit more but at the same time despise the new movie for ruining efforts at the point of the book showing that human beings cannot live without companionship.
I don't recommend this Book because...
If you've already seen the movie, you pretty much know how it ends, but otherwise I think this book should appeal to many people.
Further Comments... | ||
I don't recommend the book for young children (1 because the book uses harsh adult language and the fact it refers to some sexual content and crime such as rape and nudity. It can be called a graphic novel but really takes on the since that you're reading George Orwell or H.G Wells in some aspects. It remains one of the best Sci-Fi books I have ever read.
