Having lived their lives guided by the Seldon Plan, the people of the first and second empire grow increasingly suspicious as the plan begins to forecast future events a little ‘too accurately.’

Banished from his home, GolanTrevize is sent to assist Pelorat, a professor searching for Earth and the origins of the human race. Suspecting there is more to his exile, Trevize sets out on a journey that will ultimately lead him to uncover the true secret of Gaia.

Meanwhile, Speaker Gendibal of the second empire senses Trevize will lead them to the origin of those who have subtly manipulated them.

Though this is a stand alone story, ‘Foundations Edge’ is a direct sequel to the Foundation Trilogy, with links to the complete robot series. While I am a fan of science fiction in movies and TV I have never read many sci-fi novels beyond the sphere of Star Trek and Dune, which is why I chose to read an Asimov novel. I wasn’t disappointed, and was impressed by the incredibly detailed world he has created. Despite this I had the feeling I was missing something while reading this book, and believe I would have enjoyed it a lot more if I had read the previous novels before hand, despite this being an independent story.

This book is quality sci-fi.

If you are new to Asimov's work like me, I would recommend reading his earlier works first to get some background to his worlds.
