A man and his son walk along a highway in what was once America after a nuclear war destroyed it. It doesn't say really where they're headed, but they must always keep going and never stop.
The world is now controlled by two types of people; the "good ones" and the "bad ones." The man and his son are the "good ones." The "bad ones" are what they're running from. The "bad ones" survive by capturing the "good ones" and eating them. The man and his son are almost captured twice, but use their cunning wit to escape. On their journey they face difficult hardships (starvation, murder, cannibalism, fighting, sickness, and finally death), but also they have moments of happiness.
After you finish this book you can't help but think, "This could really happen."
McCarthy's book is wonderful, full of suspense, intrigue, and mystery. The paragraphs are well written, and once you get past the first ten pages, you cannot put this book down. Seriously. I read this book in less than twelve hours, and I would have finished it in like three hours, but I had to go to work.
