Summary of this CDs & Vinyl...
Left Banke only released two albums, but left an indelible impression on the music of the late 60's early 70's. Incorporating baroque and classical elements into their music, they paved the way for groups such as Move, ELO, and others. Having said that, the listener should be warned that of the 26 tracks included on the disc, there are only 8 - 10 standout songs, most from the first album. But, those tracks alone are worth the price of admission. Keepers include: "Barterer's & Their Wives" "I Haven't Got the Nerve" "She May Call You Up Tonight" "I've Got Something On My Mind" Another step up from there are: "Shadows Breaking Over My Head" "Desiree" Then there are the two pop MASTERPIECES for which Left Banke will always be known: "Pretty Ballerina" "Walk Away Renee" The eight songs listed above are reason enough to buy this compilation. Give this a listen and hear some of the best baroque-rock love songs ever committed to vinyl.
I especially liked... | ||
"Pretty Ballerina" & "Walk Away Renee"
I didn't like... | ||
The second half of the compilation. Much of it is self-indulgent and pretentious.
