Summary of this Book...
A fabulous tale of various experiences of a young man, his friends and all they meet while criss crossing the United States in the late forties. It is a story of friendship, love and betrayal. Sal Pardise takes the reader on several trips starting and ending in New York. Sal visits various cities across the way having great adventures in Denver and San Francisco. He allows you to meet his friends and share in the joys and his sadness; the good times and bad. The reader gets to ride the rails, thumb it, beg for rides and boost cars. You will finally put a foot inside those places one usually drives by and never gives a second thought.
This type of Book is good for...
anyone who has experienced the feelings of wanderlust and curiousity. It is a must read for everyone who longs to find inspiration in ordinary, every day things. People who desire a return to a simpler life will find comfort in this classic.
I especially liked... | ||
the many rants of Dean Moriarty when he was trying to inspire his mates to cause trouble with him. He has a unique perspective on the world and is anxious to share it with anyone, even if they don't particularly like him or want to listen to him. He is so flawed, you must love him.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
sell my material belongings and hitch hike across Canada. I had a desire to meet new people from all walks of life. I wanted to live life and not watch it pass me by.
This Book made me feel...
inspired and in control of my destiny. It reminded me if you want to do something, don't talk about it, do it.
The author of this Book...
writes with an incredible passion. Kerouac writes about seemingly ordinary people and places but makes them all appear special in very different ways.
I recommend this Book because...
it has characters which become your friends. The story is so well written, with the exception of the discussion of costs and money, you believe the adventures could have happened to anyone at any time.
Further Comments... | ||
If you need to be reminded a person does not need money in order to be rich, read this book. It has stood the test of time for a reason.
