Summary of this Book...
Ivan, a college student in our time, finds a real Sleeping Beauty. Upon waking her, he travels back to the ninth century to find out what happens once the fairy tale ends.
I especially liked... | |||
The Ukrainian history. Yeah, this is a Ukrainian Sleeping Beauty, and she brings our fair Ivan into a world where everything about him that our society values has absolutely no merit. He's a good runner, so what? He can't wield a sword and he has no idea of the customs. I also loved her take on our time, specifically with how it made her realize how harsh she had been on him in the beginning.
I didn't like... | |||
Some of the experiences Card left out. I guess it might have bogged the book down in too many details, but I really wanted to know what Katerina thought of our matresses after sleeping on flea-ridden straw all her life.
This Book made me feel...
As if the tale of Sleeping Beauty could have really happened. Card puts such a historical bend to this tale that it reads as true. Even the little bit of magic seems perfectly plausable.
I recommend this Book because...
It takes a premise I had little confidence in and turns it into an intelligent tale.
