Summary of this Book...
Ender (Andrew Wiggins) must leave behind the world he knows for Battle School, where he must train to fight off an impending alien invasion.
This type of Book is good for...
Everyone. Card's simple storytelling will capture young readers (about 8+) while the finer intricacies of the truths about the human experience will appeal to adults, and anyone who has ever felt misunderstood or left out will identify with Ender.
I especially liked...
Card's ability to bring adult readers into an environment where the main characters are all children, and still allow you to connect with the heroes on an emotional level.
I didn't like...
That the rest of this series didn't reach the same level as this one did.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Write like Card.
This Book made me feel...
Exactly the way Ender feels when he realizes what's going on. Card makes you feel everything Ender goes through on a personal, emotional level, and every time I read it I want to cry for Ender, but can't help but feel proud that he accomplishes the impossible.
The author of this Book...
I can't say for certain if this is typical of the rest of Card's work. I've read the rest of the series about Ender, and none of the sequels compare. I've only just begun the companion series. Ender's Shadow is a good book where Ender's Game is phenomenal...I really can't say if Card ever reaches the same pinnacle as he does with Ender.
I recommend this Book because...
I harbored an extreme distaste for sci-fi until I read this book, and it is now and will likely forever be my #1 ultimate favorite. The depth of the characters and the overwhelming triumph of the human spirit are amazing.
I don't recommend this Book because...
Ummm...I can't think of one single reason not to read this book
Further Comments...
I have bought 7 copies (and counting) of this book. No, not because I'm crazy--I've given this to half a dozen people as a gift just so that they will read it, and every single one of them has loved it.
