Summary of this Book...
Dark, funny story about a man who inherits the powers of `darkness', only to find out that he loses one of the few things he seems to enjoy in his life as an assassin, sex... If he gets anyone pregnant, he dies instantly and the power is passed onto his child, which is why he never meets his own father. It sound gratuitous and over violent - in some ways it is - but he's an anti-hero who shows little interest in either good or evil.
This type of Book is good for...
Fun, especially if you like bad-ass assassin comics.
I especially liked... | ||
The main character and how he felt about the girl he grew up with. Also his costume/darkness is great. It doesn't just cover him, it seems to envelope the whole scene as darkness often does.
I didn't like... | ||
There wasn't really anything I didn't like about this or am I just not being critical enough?
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Possess the powers of darkness and fall in love with a mobster assassin. I wanted to have little evil demons with baseball caps at my disposal, to take revenge on my enemies.
This Book made me feel...
Um - aggressive, no, not really. It made me chuckle and it was sad at the end, with absolutely beautiful illustrations.
The author of this Book...
Seemed to be like a little kid playing around and just having fun. The story is full of dark fantasies and he uses his powers just in the way that you think an assassin would; with violence and murder and un-ashamed humour.
I recommend this Book because...
The world is too politically correct and soon all violence will be white-washed from the media, until we are little clones in a make believe utopia, that is really dystopian, because crime never really goes away.
I don't recommend this Book because...
I do recomment it! Read it. It's great.
Further Comments... | ||
Read it unless you're offended by violent or sexual images. There are no non-consensual sexual images but it is full of murder and blood. Saying that, there are few real victims in the story. Most of the people harmed by the main man aren't very nice people at all. The character is a lover and a fighter but not at the same time. He has real affection for the girl he grew up with, in the orphanage, but rarely shows it even when she is in danger, and spends much of his time before discovering his abilities chasing every other beautiful woman, besides the one he really cares about. The ending is particularly poignant and sad and yet very fitting.
