An archeological group stumbles upon a hidden chamber that's filled with skulls of children; the town is hit with a series of gruesome murders in which the victims are horribly mutilated. Is there an ancient evil at work?

Although the few sex scenes put this book under an 18+ rating, this book would be good for teenagers; anyone above that would not really be interested by the story.

The descriptions of murders and mutilations, which were quite well done, though there were a few recurring cliches that should have been left out. Overall, description of events was good.

Characterization and plot. They need much more work than was put into them, and at times the characters seemed to have come out of The Sims One; Sims Two has better characters than this. The plot was weak, and although this is a horror book, I didn't feel frightened in the least.

Put it down and read something with good characters. I can't lay enough stress on how pathetic the characters were.

Confused, because of the sudden perspective shifts. And baffled at how the ending was done.

Shaun Hutson, although needs to work on characterization, deserves a pat on the back. His descriptions are very well done, and although the plot of this particular book was weak for me, Shaun is a good writer and will get read by me when I find more of his books around where I live.

It's a good read despite its shortcomings in various aspects, and I'm sure Shaun has gotten a few fans just because of the sex scenes he describes.

It seemed to me this book was hurriedly done to meet a deadline -- seriously! Shaun's style of writing deserves to be applauded but I would think he need to pay more attention to finer aspects of horror writing such as the bringing on of fear, characterization and a firm reason why its all happening.
