Summary of this CDs & Vinyl...
As usual, this CD was an impulse buy. I saw it sitting in Wal-Mart and, seeing as I had just updated my Phil Collins "...But Seriously" cassette tape with a CD, I wondered if I would enjoy this CD too. The song listing made me uneasy--with titles like "Testify" and "Swing Low," I worried that Phil had gone all fundamentalist on me. Fortunately, I was way off. I loved the first song from the start. The others grew on me. Now I consider it a great CD (despite the lukewarm reception at Amazon). --- Safe to say, if you like Phil Collins, you will like this CD. And if you like "...But Seriously," you should really like this CD. It's not as "serious" as that album is--in fact it seems somewhat more upbeat, in general--but who can be serious all the time?
This type of CDs & Vinyl is good for...
I can't really say, as it depends on which song you're listening to, and what your mood is. Songs like "Wakeup Call" and "Through My Eyes" are good upbeat songs, whereas tracks like "This Love This Heart" and "The Least You Can Do" are slower and sadder. There does seem to be an emphasis on "breakup"-type songs here, I admit.
I especially liked...
The very first track, "Wakeup Call," instantly had me in love! But I quickly came to enjoy the songs "Testify," "Can't Stop Loving You" (the big hit from this album), and "Through My Eyes." "Don't Get Me Started" and "The Least You Can Do" are also good, as are some of the others.
I didn't like...
I hate to admit it :/ but I don't much care for "Swing Low," "It's Not Too Late," "Driving Me Crazy," and "You Touch My Heart." The very last track, "You Touch My Heart," is just so dreary and dull...but for some reason my local radio station seems to play it a lot late at night. Maybe that's why...?
When I finished n/a this CDs & Vinyl I wanted to...
Go out and look up some more of Phil Collins's older CDs, which I did! I didn't care for them quite as much as for this one...but I did manage to find a few good songs.
This CDs & Vinyl made me feel...
Cheery and upbeat, and terribly depressed. (Again--depends on what you're listening to!)
The n/a of this CDs & Vinyl...
Is PHIL COLLINS!! Sorry to yell, I just like Phil Collins. :D If I have to tell you who he is, then you probably don't want to be buying this CD. Phil Collins's style can best be described as pop, easy listening, or soft rock.
I recommend this CDs & Vinyl because...
It is full of awesome Phil Collinsy goodness. (Honestly, what did you think I was going to say?)
I don't recommend this CDs & Vinyl because...
If you're more into the stuff that plays on modern rock stations nowadays, I really doubt you would like Phil Collins or this CD. I admit, my own musical tastes are rather outdated. But if you're into this kind of thing--you'll probably like it!
Further Comments...
I recently discovered a different one of my Phil Collins CDs under my bed...how did it get way under there?? It's a good thing I hadn't felt like listening to one of the songs on it lately or else I know I would have thrown a hissy fit wondering where my Phil Collins CD went! --- That having been said...this is one of the few times an impulse buy of mine really paid off. I'm only disappointed that "Dance Into The Light" and "Both Sides" aren't as consistently good as this CD. I do hope though that Phil can come up with another CD just as good as this one (hopefully soon...?). --- On an unrelated note--I liked the lyrics to "Through My Eyes" so much that I utilized them in my serial, "Return To Manitou Island." Another thing to be said of this CD is that it goes along well with Phil's work on Disney's "Brother Bear" soundtrack--compare the songs and lyrics, and you can definitely see some overlapping influences, considering that they must have been recorded around the same time. Interesting!
