Summary of this DVD...
Best friends Lincoln Six-Echo and Jordan Two-Delta live in an apparent utopia where everyone is happy and healthy ... and safe from the contamination which is said to have rendered the outside world uninhabitable. Everyone in this cloistered community has but one wish, which is to be selected for transfer to The Island, a paradise said to be the last uncontaminated location on Earth. But Lincoln Six-Echo has a questioning mind and, in the course of his attempts to uncover the truth about his community, he and Jordan Two-Delta find themselves in the outside world, mercilessly hunted by people with a dark secret to hide. Can they alert the public to the terrible reality of life at the Merrick research facility before it is too late?
This type of DVD is good for...
just kicking back and watching some exciting action or engaging in some deep thought about cloning, ethics, and health values ... or perhaps both.
I especially liked...
the fact that this movie makes an explicit connection between our obsessive quest for health and our descent into a beast-like, survivalist mentality. Merrick's clients see no ethical quandary in creating clones of themselves for the purpose of harvesting perfectly matched organs, just as today's seekers after health and wellness rarely consider the implications of the increasingly fear-filled and restrictive society they are creating.
I didn't like...
the idea that Jordan Two-Delta and Lincoln Six-Echo are apparently free of sexual desire. This part is just not realistic. It's not that I wanted to see more sex scenes in the movie, but the concept of human beings who are fully developed physically yet totally free of sexual feelings is not credible.
