Summary of this Book...
When mothers try to live through their daughters, rose-colored glasses appear, clouding adult issues that shouldn't ever happen to any little girl. Reference to the book and movie, A Fairy Tale, bring some lightness to this weighty issue of children, modeling and pedifiles. Francesca Lia Block does a wonderful job of bringing this horrible issue to light without preaching and filth. Beautiful, believeable characters grace the pages, trying to grow up in a world of cameras, sex and fantasy realities just beyond their reach.
This type of Book is good for...
over the age of thirteen. Issuews are dealt with involving drugs, sex and excess that younger preteens need not worry about.
I especially liked... | ||
the honesty portrayed between the young model, Barbie and her fairy queen, Mab. The relationship between them keeps the child from a total meltdown.
I didn't like... | ||
the disregard of the father feelings to his daughter. Without parental influence, the teens in this book flounder trying to find out why they were abandoned during a critical time in their lives.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
find these abused children and tell them that someone cares. Unfortunately, many parents overlook the signs when they are trying to live through their childrens accomplishments,
The author of this Book...
has a wonderful way of addressing teenage problems without "dumbing" them down or sugar coating them.
I recommend this Book because...
it bring the issues of pedifiles in our mainstream lives to the surface and gives us a reason to wake up and realize that our children need us to parent, not be blinded by the hollywood lights.
