John Eldridge's Epic is a story of the Author, the need for a Story, and the human heart. It explains the need in the human heart for a Story, whether it be a fairy tale, a short story, a novel, a movie, or a play. Eldredge points out that creation cannot be an accident, that our passions and our souls are too complex to be simmered down to a mathematical equation. He also points out that every Story has a Villain, and in this world, in our great Story, we choose to ignore that fact. He uses well known movies, fairy tales, and stories to make his points and this makes the book easy to relate to from any background a person could have. The imagery Eldredge is capable of is astounding, and is displayed at its best in this book.
