Summary of this Book...
Jane Austen, clergyman's daughter, spinster and sometimes writer, goes to visit her good friend Isobel Payne, Countess of Scargrave, to celebrate her wedding to the much older Earl of Scargrave. Jane arrives in time to witness the violent death of the Earl. All assume that the death was of natural causes until anonymous notes start laying the blame. When Isobel is charged with murder, only Jane has the wits to uncover the truth.
This type of Book is good for...
Any lover of historical mystery and Jane Austen fans.
I especially liked...
Barron's grasp of Austen's way of writing is superb. I actually felt that I was reading something written by Jane Austen herself.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Read the next! It's currently a 7 book series.
This Book made me feel...
Like I was with Jane as she worked her way through the world of passion, intrigue, and murder.
The author of this Book...
Stephanie Barron is a big fan of Jane Austen. You can find out more about her at her website: http://www.francinemathews.com/
I recommend this Book because...
There are very few historical mysteries as well written as this one. Any fan of Jane Austen will enjoy this book and its sequels.
Further Comments...
I picked this book up on a whim, thinking it would be one that I put down immediately because I love Jane Austen and, to be honest, I thought the idea of using her as a sleuth ridiculous. Barron treats Jane with respect, though, and the reader is entirely convinced that Jane's intelligence might have very well served her in this capacity.
