This is NOT a gore book, nothing like Stephen King. It is an intelligent haunted house book, well written, researched and plausible.

Sophisticated readers of ghost stories/haunted house novels, readers who enjoy stories that delve into relationships, readers who want to learn about modern day ghost hunting.

The exploration of the story behind the haunting...the explantation of ghost hunting...the atmosphere Ms. Hawkes creates in her story. The love scenes are well written. You want to keep reading to find out more about the story behind the haunting of the house.

The way the book was edited. I think it was Ms. Hawkes first book, and you can tell where some editor took a hatchet to chapters.

Read her other books...which..alas..are not as good.

Like I wanted to own the book, and re-read it.
We did buy the book in paperback; I have read it about 8 times, my husband about 5. Should be a movie. With Gweneth Paltrow in the lead.

Should write a sequel.

It is hard to find a true haunted house story that is plausible. Good haunted house stories are few and far between, especially modern ones.
