Summary of this Book...
A group of kids meet an alien trying to save their planet from a parasitic alien species quietly taking over humankind. Given the ability to "morph" into any animal they "acquire" they use creativity and ingenuity to go up against a scourge on Earth much bigger than them. First of a series of 50+ books, you and your kids will be hooked!
This type of Book is good for...
Probably ages 8 and up -- I know several 3rd & 4th graders totally hooked! I admit to reading behind my kids, even though they are a bit popcorn for adults! (My kids are 7 & 9 -- 2nd & 4th grade.)
I especially liked...
They are understandable, yet exciting for kids.
I didn't like...
If your child is easily frightened or has trouble distinguishing reality from fantasy, might want to avoid. It reads very real, and the premise is that you can't tell when someone is taken over.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Read the next one!
This Book made me feel...
It's neat to share a book with your children that doesn't make you bored to tears!
The author of this Book...
K.A. Applegate
I recommend this Book because...
It encourages reading and sharing. It's an early introduction to sci-fi. It has a plot that is eery but believable -- and although the characters experience minor triumphs in each book, they are in a long struggle that doesn't tie up in a happy bow in 50 pages or less -- just like life doesn't. It deals with friendships, difficulties, struggles, dealing with defeat and overwhelming odds, not fitting in with peers (one kid accidentally gets trapped as a red-tailed hawk forever). Also works in LOTS of humor between the characters.
Further Comments...
When my kids open an Animorphs, they don't stop turning the pages until it is done. My 2nd grader isn't as gaga about reading as my 4th grader, but he's on the 5th one in the series already.
