Lucas Davenport is at it again in "Naked Prey". This time out, Lucas and his partner Del Capslock are sent to a backwoods town to keep the lid on a possible lynching before it becomes a political firestorm for the Governer, all the while searching for the man responsible for hanging the town's only black resident and his white girlfriend. In the course of their investigation they find that things are not what they appear as the clues lead them through a twistin maze of lies and deceit on the trail of a murderer. This book follows along in the grand tradition of the previous Prey novels. John Sandford clearly believes in the adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" because the latest Prey novel deviates very little from the tried and true formula that has made the series a hit. The one difference here is, now that Lucas is finally married, there is no "woman du jour"-a cliche that had long since been worn out. Instead, Lucas and Del are teamed up with a precocious twelve year old named Letty West who found the bodies in the first place. This is a well written character who stands head and shoulders above Lucas' previous female companions. A thoroughly enjoyable read, I recommend "Naked Prey" without reservation. | ||
