Summary of this Book...
A story told from the perspective of Seyonne, a man who was once part of a race whose soul purpose was to fight off demons that would infest men's souls and feed off their terror and pain. Yet all that was stripped away from him when the vast Derzhi empire marched on his home and killed or enslaved most of his people. Yet now, sixteen years later, when he thinks that all he has nothing left to live for, he is sold as a slave into the hands of the arrogant and cruel Prince Aleksander, a man who should be the embodiment of everything he hates. And instead he finds the seeds of greatness, and an old oath that once again draws him into a fight he'd given up on. This is a captivating story of redemption, corruption, and brotherhood, and the path of two men to find themselves again.
I especially liked... | ||
The complexity of the characters, and the depth that they posess, especially Seyonne and Aleksander. They are well crafted and even from the first moment it's hard not to be drawn in. Even Aleksander, for all his arrogance and cruelty becomes a character that can't help but be loved.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Read it again and again. And then I wanted all my friends to read it.
This Book made me feel...
Joy, sorrow, fear, relief, almost every emotion I'm capable of feeling. It's one of those books that has the reader on the edge of their seat until the very end.
The author of this Book...
Carol Berg, has written two more to accompany Transformation, though sadly not as good as the first, a stand alone novel "Song of the Beast", and is coming out with a new series come February 2004. She is decidedly one of my favorite authors, and her characters are ones I would write for and can relate to. Transformation is her first book, but it is still one of the best.
I recommend this Book because...
It is an incredible story. It is just an absolute masterpiece, and I find something new every time I read it, which has been a couple times.
I don't recommend this Book because...
Though not terribly graphic, some of the parts dealing with battle and slavery are not necessarily suitable for younger readers.
Further Comments... | ||
This is one of the best books I have ever read, if not THE best book. It isn't just a story about the battle between good and evil, but a story about finding oneself, about corruption and redemption, and about faith. I loved the interaction between Seyonne and Aleksander, and how they came to see each other for what they truly were. This is a beautifully crafted story that everyone, not just fantasy lovers, should read.
