Summary of this Book...
Dr. Cherijo Grey Veil, a small Terran with a wicked sense of humour and 5000 years of unbroken Native American lineage escapes from Terra and her extremely controlling and overprotective father on a heap of junk bound for Kevarzangia Two, a small frotier colony, populated with aliens of all sorts. Cherijo has never even seen an non-human before, but K-2 is so desperate for anyone who can tell one end of a lasascalpel from the other is hired. She finds friends, and even love among the residents of the colony, including Duncan Reever, a singularly creepy person. When plague breaks out in the colony, Cherijo has to come to terms with her history, and her future.
This type of Book is good for...
Good old space opera fun, with intense interpersonal relationships and an extremely fast-paced story line.
I especially liked... | ||
I liked the witty comments Cherijo has. She's my hero! Plus, the whole medical thing is rather thrilling, especially with aliens.
I didn't like... | ||
There is some sex scenes, but please be mature and don't email me to complain. They are not gratuitous, or especially dirty, just don't give this to an eight-year old.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Well, find the sequels, of course! You'll be glad to know that there are 5 Stardoc novels in total, and I'm hearing rumours of a series in the same universe. The sequels, in order are: Beyond Varallan, Endurance, Shockball, and Eternity Row.
The author of this Book...
Is S. L. Viehl, a most excellent woman who is now my hero. Excuse me, I'm going to go worship her now.
I recommend this Book because...
Its a wonderful book, and I like it. The writing style is not especially hard to read, and it just sort of sucks you in, but it isn't simplistic. If you like sci-fi, you'll love this
I don't recommend this Book because...
If you don't like science fiction, obviously don't read this, but I think there are enough things in this book to make it qualify as something more complex than space opera.
