Summary of this Book...
This Shakespeare play chronicles the romantic trials of Proteus and Valentine, best friends, as they attempt to find true love, marriage and happiness.
I especially liked...
the parts concerning the Duke, Lance, and Julia. Although all the characters are developed, these 3 seemed to me to be the most alive. They had the most developed dialouges/monolouges and I could more easily decipher their feelings from Shakespeare's writing than say Proteus, whose actions I sometimes couldn't comprehend.
I didn't like...
how the beginning was hard to "get into". It was pretty slow for the first few scenes. However, it soon picks up the pace and delves into the deeper story.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
see it put into action. Shakespeare's works hold a different power on stage or on screen. Unfortunately, this is one of Shakespeare's lesser performed plays, and finding a movie adaptation has proved futile.
The author of this Book...
has gained world renown for his more famous works like Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, etc., but still his literary style and masterful storytelling shine through in his lesser known plays like The Two Gentlemen of Verona
I recommend this Book because...
any fan of Shakespeare will certainly enjoy this piece. Even if you don't particularly like Shakespeare or find it difficult to understand (don't we all sometimes? *Smile*), if you can get your hands on an annotated version (like Cliff Notes) I'm fairly certain you'll enjoy the story itself; it has a wonderful plot and enough twists to keep you guessing till the end.
Further Comments...
(Although the system forces you to choose between 5 and 4 stars, I really give it more like a 4.5 in overall quality.)
