The story is set in an island. The prophet, who is an outsider has been with the islanders for a long time and is now preparing to leave the island. As he is standing there on the beach wiating for his ship, he speaks to the islanders and answers their questions on love, marriage, work and other such topics. It is philosophy told in the form of a story.

Understanding life; it is an ispiration for any one wanting to know the meaning of life. It is an aid to meditation and contemplation.
