Summary of this Book...
The fifth installment of J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. Harry Potter returns to Hogwarts for his fifth year. He dreads the O.W.Ls that would come at the end of the term - but that's just the least of his problems.
I especially liked...
how the story matures and becomes more complicated just as Harry himself grows up. The reader joins Harry as he gets to know himself better and try to grasp the realities around him. I also like the way she tries to break away from the her former book's plots. Hence, this installment contains a lot of plot twists and surprises that will keep you guessing until the end.
I didn't like...
Personally, I thought there was too much angst and anger. I suppose because Harry's becoming a teenager, angst sort of comes with the territory and it does work in making Harry more weak and normal and human, and perhaps less of a legend. But all the shouting irritated me. Maybe I just disppointed that the Harry was not turning out as I had imagined him to be, but in works in developing the complexity of Harry's character.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
do nothing. It was rather long and finishing it within a few days wore me down that I had to take a break from Harry Potter and reading in general. (Too bad I still had to study for a test the next day...)
This Book made me feel...
It left me in awe at Rowling's imagination, and some of the anger in the story rubbed on to me leaving me with a headache. Some deaths in the books left me sad. But just like Harry, there was a feeling of renewed hope that Harry's story isn't finished yet, and Harry Potter will continue to grow, learn, and see beyond the anger blinds him.
The author of this Book...
has certainly matured in her writing since book one. Its amazing how she manages to weave such a complex story.
I recommend this Book because...
It's Book 5 - if you've read the last four book and enjoyed it, you certainly would not want to miss this installment!
I don't recommend this Book because...
The length may be an issu for some people. And save this book for older kids since younger kids may not understand the flaws in Harry's and the other's characters.
