This book offers a sense of what it was like back in the 1900s. Great detail and a marvelous written book sharing the feelings and hardships of a boy, who eventually becomes a man in a world that tears you down. A poor, yet ambitious young man, who comes through many trails. I read these types of books very often and this one is great. READ THIS BOOK! It is one of the most interesting I have read and Taylor Caldwell, the author did an excellent job and the ending...well, it's just wonderful!

I didn't feel the need to re-read this book, which is sad, nor do I want to own it, yet it's a GREAT book.

It is a wonderful first read and gives excellent hind-sight into the 1900's.
