Summary of this DVD...
Everything about Dawn Weiner is strange. The way she looks, talks, walks, reacts, and dresses are odd. It has made her life a day to day struggle. She is called nasty names by the kids at school ('Weiner Dog' being their personal favorite), her teachers treat her unfairly, and a tough kid (Brandon) wants to do the unthinkable to her. Her life at home isn't much better as she struggles being the middle child. Her older brother, Mark, and her sugary sweet sister, Missy, get all of the attention. She also is treated badly by her mother and father, who are insensitive to her. Not to mention there is her undying crush on Steve, the lead singer of her brother's band. It looks as if things may never get better for her...
I especially liked...
There were some realistic scenes in the film. There is a scene which I think best makes the point of the film: Dawn is watching an infomercial featuring relationship expert Barbara DeAngelis. It tells us that Dawn wants love from everyone in her life.
The cast of this DVD...
Heather Matarazzo plays the role of Dawn very well. It is a shame she has not gotten past the supporting role mode since this film. She is capable of handling the lead.
I recommend this DVD because...
It is a good film. Just don't watch it when you are in a bad mood lol.
Further Comments...
I saw this two years ago and liked it. For Director Todd Solondz, this was much better (and slightly more realistic) than his sophmore effort, the controversial Happiness. Many people have called this a comedy, but I would call it anything but. There are some funny momments, but few. I felt for Dawn more than anything.
