Summary of this Book...
Set in the early 1900s, this is an early horror story that influenced authors like H.P. Lovecraft. It is about a ship that goes out to sea, and is gradually taken over by supernatural creatures from beneath the ocean. It is told in genuine San Francisco dialect of the early 1900s, since Hodgson himself was a sailor of the time.
This type of Book is good for...
Entertainment mostly.
I especially liked... | ||
This story was actually a little scary. It has a very interesting plot and the characters seem quite believable.
I didn't like... | ||
The book ended rather abruptly. It could have been expanded.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Watch pirates of the caribbean.
The author of this Book...
William Hope Hodgson did not live for very long. He wrote a few very good horror stories then he had to go to WWI, where he died. It's too bad, really. He could have become an extremely influential author.
I recommend this Book because...
It is a refreshing brand of horror you cannot get in very many place. It is original beyond what is offered now, in fact it would be impossible for a modern author to reproduce a work like this.
