I didn't like... | ||
I guess I can't say I didn't like much. The biggest thing, maybe, is that I had to watch this on DVD, and not in person. Oh, and in regards to the DVD itself, I was expecting more in terms of special features. When this originally broadcast on PBS over a decade ago, an interview with Stephen Sondheim aired, as well as a making-of featurette. But, I guess that's Sondheim biting us in the butt again; we only want what we can't have.
When I finished viewing this DVD I wanted to...
Watch it again. Really. I got this for Christmas of 2003 after watching it in 2001 in my drama class, then getting the soundtrack Christmas of 2002. I finally had all of it, and I just wanted to keep watching. It was played over and over for days.
The cast of this DVD... | ||
Is amazing! Bernadette Peters gives a wonderful performance as the Witch, while JoAnna Gleason proves that she is a very talented woman. Robert Westenberg and Chuck Wagner perform as stuck-up, selfish princes very well, and Robert Westenberg even doubles as the big bad Wolf. Tom Aldredge gave the musical a real storybook feel, and proved to be the center of many funny moments. He also doubled as the crazy old man in the woods... The rest of the cast, including Chip Zien, were all perfect for their roles. I really had no problems with the casting at all.
I recommend this DVD because...
It teaches a good lesson, the quality of both the DVD and the play itself is great, and it really puts a great spin on those fairy tales we knew as youngins.
