Summary of this Book...
A search for identity. Like many books, this is about the main character trying to find who he is and where he fits in the world. However, Salinger presents it dfferently; expressing the main character, Holden, as one who doesn't want to fit into the world all that fast. It is a book about how a rebellious teenager tries to avoid the world and society, but really needs somebody.
I especially liked...
The end. The last part of the second to last chapter; it was such a powerful moment; very touching, very Kodak/Hollywood, and vivid.
I didn't like...
The beginning. And most of the middle. Too much digression. Too slow of a pace.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Think. I wanted to think about our world, about my childhood slipping away, and how screwy society can be.
This Book made me feel...
Different. It made me feel cathartic; very touched, yet annoyed. I know some of the annoyance was for the way some of the book was written and the lack of plot-line, but it was also annoyance at the world.
The author of this Book...
Is quite the fellow. He wrote this differently than most, and it was compelling at times.
I recommend this Book because...
It really makes you think. Thinking is something this world needs more of.
I don't recommend this Book because...
It seems pointless at times, and doesn't really have a solid plot line that is obvious throughout.
Further Comments...
It's not a bad book. Takes awhile to get used to-but a good read. Something that makes you think, and leaves a mark.
