Summary of this Book...
The insanity of being a nanny. This best-selling novel is told from a first-person point of view from a nanny. She takes us into the world of the rich and powerful and exposes the naked truth. The main character, "Nanny", works for a wealthy family in Manhattan, New York, while working her way thru NYU. Nanny is hired to look after a family's four year old. Sounds simple enough, but Nanny ends up having to do everything from teaching the child French, to shopping for the father's mistress. Although the novel is fiction, the novel is very easy to believe.
I especially liked...
Nanny's inner monologue. Nanny's thoughts add a lot of humor to the book. While says one thing, in her head she is thinking something completely different.
I didn't like...
I loved the book, but I didn't like some of the things I read. Nanny was treated poorly by the family, as were most of the employees. It might make some readers upset, considering that this happens a lot in real life.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
I really wanted to sit down with the authors and ask if these stories were based on true events and if so, who were the families?
This Book made me feel...
I felt many different emotions while reading this book. One moment I was laughing, the next moment I was cringing. Some parts made me angry. I was, both, shocked and appalled by the way these families treated their employees. I didn't really know what to expect before I read this book, but it definitely surprised me. I also felt sad at the end.
The author of this Book...
The authors of this book used to be nannies, but no longer do that, since the success of this novel. This is their first book, I don't know if they plan to write more or if this is just a one time thing.
I recommend this Book because...
It wasn't like anything I had read before. It was a harsh reality to face. I never realized the things that nannies went through, working for wealthy families like that. It will suprise many readers
I don't recommend this Book because...
Men probably wouldn't go for a book like this. It's more geared towards women, especially those who are unfamiliar with a New York lifestyle.
Further Comments...
This book caused quite an uproar among the rich and powerful, when it first debuted. Which only added to sale and popularity of this novel.
