Mourning the death of her husband and child, Lilith Iyapo is in a remote part of the Andes mountains when World War III comes, destroying the Earth as we know it. In the cataclysm, she is knocked unconscious.



She awakens to find herself in a new world, surrounded by strange and seemingly hostile beings.



Lilith learns that she and a small number of humans have been kept in suspended animation for thousands of years, until such a time as the Earth had repaired itself of the damages wrought by man.



That time is now. Lilith and her fellow humans are to be returned to the Earth to start over...but under one terrible condition.

The characterization of Lilith. She is an extremely strong woman who faces usual challenges. She is also thoroughly human with faults that get her in sometimes deadly trouble.

Octavia Butler is the winner of both a Hugo and a Nebula award. She is one of the first African-American female writers to make a name for herself in the science fiction genre. Her readers span many races and both genders.

It's an exciting adventure. This really is a must read for any science fiction fan. In addition, I would consider it a must read for any action adventure fan as well.
