Summary of this Book...
It's a great, wonderful, thrilling favorite movie. But you've gotta read the book! Using perhaps one of the most involved and effective frame stories in modern literature, Goldman tells much more than the tale of Westley and Buttercup in this novel. It's as much the story of the Princess Bride as the story of the BOOK The Princess Bride, which Goldman first had read to him as a small child. Tongue in cheek and most hillarious, the book still contains all the elements of the movie - and so much more. The character's stories are fleshed out, including but not limited to Fezzik and Inigo's complete histories. But the book does not drag, nor is it boring. It is sarcastic and totally comedic, full of whimsey and humor, true love, miracles, etc, and is so totally worth reading that I find myself wanting to offer you, the person reading this review, gp's just for reading the book! So - anyone who goes out and reads The Princess Bride because of this review (I'm trusting you here!) will get 100 gift points, assuming I have that many. Are you convinced yet???? Follow the link to the Amazon.com website and read the sample pages there. You'll see what I mean!! New comment Feb 2003: The version currently for sale on Amazon (and which I just bought myself) is the 25th anniversary edition, with an extra forward and a DELIGHTFUL afterword, with the first chapter of the never-going-to-be-published "Buttercup's Baby." If you got the cash, plunk it down for this copy! If you don't, get thee to a public library!!
