This book takes place at the turn of the 12th century in medieval England. It centers on five separate characters who come from different backgrounds and have different goals in life. The entire story takes place around the building of a cathedral.

I very much liked the way the author weaves the five characters stories together. He is extremely easy to read.

My only dislike is that at times he gets a little too technical with the details of the building of the cathedral.
