Summary of this Book...
When the Conways move into their ancestral home in Louisiana after the death of an estranged aunt, it is with the promise of a new beginning. But the house has a life of its own. Abandoned for the last forty years, surrounded by thick trees and a stifling sense of melancholy, the sprawling Victorian house seems to swallow up the sunlight. Deep within the cold cellar and etched into the very walls is a long, dark history of the Conway name--a grim bloodline poisoned by suicide, strange disappearances, voodoo rituals and rumors of murder. But the family knows nothing of the soul-shattering secrets that snake through generations of their past. They do not know that terror awaits them. For with each generation of the Conways comes a hellish day of reckoning...
I especially liked... | ||
The characters, the plot, the pure Evil and terrible happenings that kept my eyes wide open at night.
I didn't like... | ||
Sometimes, Saul’s writing style bothers me. He has a “no-shit” way of writing. He gets his point across simply without too much decorating. In some instances, that’s perfect for me. Other times, I’d like him to embellish the limbs. Also, I must confess, some of the scenes were a little typical. The end, although satisfying, threw me off a bit. It left me undecided.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
I wanted to continue reading other John Saul works. He has hooked me.
This Book made me feel...
Frightened, disgusted, entertained, annoyed, frustrated with Janet Conway…
The author of this Book...
John Saul. He has written a number of horror novels, usually centreing around children as both the hero, and the villain.
I recommend this Book because...
It’s terribly frightening and grotesque. It had great twists, bizarre characters and a terrifying premise in which the plot is built on.
Further Comments... | ||
This book touches and goes rather in depth upon: voodoo, death of human beings and animals, evil, sex, supernatural occurrences, and Satan. This is a good, straightforward horror. Go buy it!
