Summary of this Book...
2 kids(10-13 range) go to spend the summer with their 2 cousins,(same ages) because their father has to have an operartion. The boy, collects lead soliders, and makes a wish on one of them, that one being an old family heirloom, that their father should get better. The old knight tells him wishes have to be earned. When the boy and his sister get to their cousins house, they find a magnificent castle and dollhouse for them. The castle every third night drags them into it, and they and the lead figures have all sorts of humorous adventures. Each time the castle and knights have been rearragned in the real world, this takes it's toll on the magic. The knights in this book are none other the the ones from Ivanhoe, and the other characters from Robin Hood!
I especially liked... | ||
It's very funny. Like the Enchanted Forest Chronicles, it's satire, and has some puns. You also need a background in old legends and faerie tales for this.
I didn't like... | ||
nothing. | ||
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Read the squel called the Time Garden, same charcaters and all. And there's two other books by him that involve these kids parents when they were children and had magical adevntures themselves!(Half Magic then Magic by the Lake.)
This Book made me feel...
Amused and happy. | ||
The author of this Book...
Is very, very good, and was writting fantasy for kids before Lord of the Rings was published! He uses a lot of humor, his writting is good and very quick, he's one of the 1st fantasy for kids authors, but sadly not very well known.
I recommend this Book because...
Kids and adults can read and enjoy it. Just like the Harry Potter books, but these are classier.
I don't recommend this Book because...
Some predijuiced people may not want to read it, because it's in the kids section. I have one thing to say to you: theyre not kids books, theyre EVERYBODY books! Besides you read them as a kid, so whats wrong with reading them now? theyre just as good, and you can view the story with new eyes.
Further Comments... | ||
He's also written two others, Magic or Not? and then the Well Wishers, so he's written 3 mimi-series. These are great books! If you're a kid read em, if you have kids, read them to your kids!
