Summary of this Book...
Bilbo Baggins, a creature called a hobbit (they resemble minature humans) who gets yanked out of his complacent and "very respectable" life to follow the good wizard Gandalf and 13 dwarves over the mountains into the distant wildland in search of an ancient treasure guarded by a dragon.
This type of Book is good for...
Anyone who loves fantasy stories.
I especially liked... | ||
Tolkien's descriptions of the Shire and the surrounding countryside were easy to picture in my mind.
I didn't like... | ||
I liked nearly every part of this book.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Read the rest of Tolkien's works about Middle-Earth.
This Book made me feel...
Curious about the world that the book portrayed.
The author of this Book...
Was an absolute genius. He invented languages for the different races in Middle-Earth to speak. Tolkein was also a close friend of C.S. Lewis. Lewis' That Hideous Strength is chock full of references to Tolkien and Middle Earth
I recommend this Book because...
It's a classic and a good adventure. There is some violence but it's not very graphic, it was originally written for children. It's also a good representation of the "Hero's Journey" archetype.
I don't recommend this Book because...
No reason not to. | ||
Further Comments... | ||
I should probably note that "The Hobbit" (the rest of it's title being: "Or There and Back Again") is the beginning of the tale that eventually places Frodo Baggins on his quest to destroy the One Ring. If you've seen the movie but not read the books, please do! You don't know what you're missing.
