Well, it's not a very subtle title because guess what? It's about war...and how to conduct yourself in battle so that you win.

This book was written around 200 AD, and it still has advice that is so logical that no one can really doubt that the advice works.




I also like the way the editor/translator Samuel B. Griffith gives you some background on what was going on when this book was written.

This book made me feel like there are honorable aspects of war. I had been debating that point for a good while.

Sun Tzu is kinda like Homer. Not much is known about his personal life. It has been suggested that some of these ideas written in the book were batted about by others during the time period.

The philosophy is very sound. You can take these points and apply them to other enterprises like business. If you are an overly-aggressive person, you may learn how to apply your energy effeciently. If you are not an aggressive person, this will give you some tips on how to prepare yourself for battle, so to speak.

This was recommended reading when I was at Officer Candidate School in Quantico, Va. And I can see why because a lot of concepts used by Marine Corps are laid forth in this book.
