Summary of this Book...
a world in which dreams and imagination exist. In the book, Silverstein puts together a collection of children's poems in which anything can happen.
I especially liked... | ||
the fun and creative way Silverstein played with words. My favorite poem from this book is called "The Unicorn". In it, Silverstein expalins why we never see any unicorns, and I think what I loved most about this poem, besides the fact that it was a lot of fun, is that it gives a child something that he or she is able to identify with and make sense of when the world may at times seem so senseless.
I didn't like... | ||
There wasn't anything I didn't like about this book. I believe nursery rhymes help bind children to adults, and street and game rhymes bind children to children. I believe that nursery rhymes, riddles, and poems help children learn to decode the world and make sense of it through the use of the language that structures the poem. Silverstein's book does that, and its poetry is poetry of play filled with tongue twisters, rhymes, singing games, and salty verse.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
run out and buy (and I did) his other book, Falling Up.
This Book made me feel...
content in my escape from reality.
The author of this Book...
was a true artist of words, and he knew how to create a place in which the reader is able to become lost in Silverstein's imagination.
I recommend this Book because...
I have all of Silverstein's books, and of them all, this is one of my favorites.
